Parietal foundation text

This document presents the scientific context and motivations for creating an INRIA project team at Neurospin Research Center. This team, which we propose to call PARIETAL, should be dedicated to modelling brain structure, function and variability based on neuroimaging data. It aims at developing a particular expertise in statistical and machine learning procedures in order to produce cutting edge methodological tools for neuroimaging data analysis. After a brief description of the team identifier and an inspection of its current members, we give an overview on neuroimaging and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques and of the research activities at Neurospin. The core part of the document describes the research projects of Parietal, in terms of research axes, but also some more focused projects. The position of Parietal within INRIA and within the international community are finally discussed. Last update : 30/04/2009
